I would like to remind everyone that this website is on the verge of an expansion/redesign. There have been suggestions for starting a mailing-list, implementing site-wide searches etc. I think a message-board will be useful too. So, use the "feedback form" and send in any ideas you may have.
Thanks for all your interest - go green and white!!!
I am currently shopping around for web-hosting prices (so that we can have the database on-line and searchable). I am also investigating the setting-up of a "bulletin board" or mailing-list for Dipsites. The only limitation to doing all this is, of course, as always, time and money!!
If you or your organization would like to donate space on your server, or would like to sponsor the DiPSites site, please send me some "feedback"! Individual contributions are also welcome! Thanks!
Are you interested in "chatting" with other Dipsites online? Let me propose a meeting in the chat-rooms at the irc-server named chat.talkcity.com in channel #dipsites ; how about Monday evenings at 9:30 p.m. EST? Come, lets talk some Dipsite talk starting 9th June 1997!
I have added two more pages - By Locale (a table which sorts Dipsites by Location), and a "Comments" page (to list what people have said about this website - serves to inspire me to keep working with this :-]).
I am very close to obtaining a scanner - so, pictures should be here soon!
1) I think the link back into DPS is vital, so we should assist/take up Mrs. Chona's idea of a strong Alumni Association. (DPS Intl). In fact we should even try to have a get-together over the Independence Day weekend. Why don't you put feelers out on your News page and see what kind of responses you get. We would need to move fast if things look good. We could invite her then as the chief guest..(Hmmm - sounds good - how about it guys and gals? - KA)
2) You might have some trouble getting a domain name such as .org as those are mostly reserved for Defense Organizations. (not true - .org can be obtained by any non-profit organization - KA) But, your point is well taken..Since membership is growing, capacity must be expanded.
3)I think people will be willing to pay only if they see added value on the site such as chat rooms with teachers, others..video-clips from DPS... (I agree - so what would YOU perceive as added value? "Feedback" please! - KA)
Of course, more services (like a mailing list, real-time additions/updates to the database) will mean that
So, if you care about DPS (I know that most of us do or we wouldn't be here!) and want to make a difference, send an email or use the "Feedback" form! Thanks!
As of today, we have 104 Dipsites from RKP and 89 from MR registered on these pages. Enough to start an association, me thinks!
>Dear Ashwini, >We are interested to start an alumni association of our >students living abroad . >We would request your help on the following issues: >1. Where do we register this association ? >2. How many ex students would be interested in taking up membership to this association ? >3. How can you and all the other ex-students help in making this a grand success? >Thank You, > Sincerely, >Mrs. S. Chona >Principal >Delhi Public School, R.K Puram >Sector XII, R.K. Puram >New Delhi - 110022 >India >Tel: 6174235, 6171267 >Fax : 91-11-6184023All those interested in participating, please call/fax her! Maybe I should give Mr. Sardana (of MR) a wake up call too ;-]
I have received two emails from DiPSites listed on these pages who have caught grief from others because of their "memories". This is indeed unfortunate (in my opinion).
Please understand that I only reproduce on these pages what I receive through your forms. I cannot, under any circumstances, be held liable for views expressed by others in their submissions. If this is not acceptable to you, please let me know and I will gladly remove your name from the database. Thanks for listening.
Here is the Dipsites Dinner report from Gagan Mehra. Thanks Gagan!
The Annual Dipsites Dinner was held on the 27th of Dec.1996 on the back side of hostel; close to the oldest basketball court. The occasion was graced by Deen Dayal Sir,Salman Khursheed, who is an eminent Dipsite and a minister in the government, and a lot of younger generation dipsites with lots of enthu . The party had a DJ and the old basketball court served as the dance floor. In true Dipsite tradition liquor was flowing freely. The strength at this dinner was surprisingly very high. Though official entry was closed at 10.00pm, people were pouring in till 11.30 pm. Very few grey haired Dipsites could be seen( I know a lot of them dye their hair), and teachers were even lesser in number . I did spot Mr. Rawat, physical education teacher, with his son and daughter. Now coming to a gastronomer's interest, the food was good and the general opinion was that it was better than the last time. The beer was also good. If you have been wondering how we survived in the freezing Delhi night, there were angeethis lit up to generate heat. And there was dancing, drinking, leg pulling and a lot of gup-shap. I left at 1.00am and there were still many dipsites dancing and merry-making.
I am getting a lot of offers for help with the website. Let me reiterate that we need pictures, pictures, and more pictures! Please contact me through the guestbook if you would like to email me any DPS-related pictures (or for my US mail address).
Some feedback has referred to the "guys" maintaining this website. Well, I hate to break it to you but all of you have been seriously misled ;--] ;--] Its just yours truly and my trusty "Macintosh" computers creating all this magic - yes, ONE single person. Just imagine what a whole army of Dipsites could do? Can we make a difference?? How??? Let me know. Let's talk. If there is enough interest, I might even set up a mailing list. How about it??
The first two sites added are the official page for DPS R.K. Puram (thanks to the tip from Gaurav Aggarwal), and the Dipsites database being maintained by Shubham Gupta in Singapore. Other sites will be added as and when they are discovered ;-]
Shri R.K.Tutu Dhawan is our 150th member - and it is indeed fitting that one of the senior-most DiPSites gets the honor! Of course, his daughters and fellow DiPSites, Reetika and Radhika, were instrumental in having him submit his entry! Thanks!!
The first hundred took more than 9 months - the second fifty only took 75 days ;-] I bet the next 50 comes in 60 days or less!!
The links from the abrreviated tables (by name, by branch and by date) will now take you directly to the respective DiPSites entry in the full list(s). This feature will help you navigate quickly between the condensed and detailed data. Enjoy!
I have added another table called By Branch - so that you can find your batchmates more easily! Enjoy!!
We are getting increasing participation from India! Welcome aboard IIM Ahmedabad!!
The site continues to grow, and "The Full List" will be split into several pages in the near future as it has simply become too large. Please send me comments on this, and other issues re. the website.
I would also like to make yet another request : If you have material related to DPS that I could use (logo, pictures etc.), PLEASE send them to me! Thanks.
I must have missed something - the only other DPS page/site that I am aware of is at www.alumni.net ; are there any others which are alive and kicking? If the answer is yes, PLEASE send me the URL (use the Guestbook form), and I will contact them.
However, due to time restrictions, I cannot see myself being involved in any collation efforts. All the data is available on "The Full List" - please let me know if you intend to use it for collation. Thanks!
We need more members from the earlier years (60s, 70s and 80s) to send in their data. Of course, the younger members are probably more prone to have internet access, and hence their increased contributions.
I have added a query for "How did you hear about these pages" in the Database Form. Please fill it in if you are sending in a new entry or an update. Thank you.
Do you have any thoughts or ideas about setting up an International DiPSites Foundation? Please send me email if you would like to get involved in such an effort.
A page featuring selected "memories" should be up soon. In addition, "The Full List" is looking like a good candidate to be split up into several pages. Please send me your ideas/suggestions by using the guestbook. Thanks.
Congratulations to Nayan Deep Singh Kanwal for being the 100th DiPSite in the database! And all those who graduated in the mid-70s, get in touch with him!!
And thanks to each and every one of you who took the time to send in a submission. I hope that you have gotten in touch with at least _one_ of your batchmates. If you have, would you please let me know by writing in the guestbook! Thanks. All "success" stories will appear on this News page.
Starting today, you will see "Location" information for DiPSites in "The Full List".
Madhav Acharya has sent in a nice set of comments ; do check them out!
In order to show you the latest additions, a new, By Date page has been added. The new members are Devaraj Baul(from Russia), Sanjay Gupta and Abhigyan Modi!
Aman Sur, from Australia, has sent in an updated entry and a short essay ; do check it out on "The Full List". Please send in anecdotes/stories that you would like me to include ; if I get enough of them, it will give me a reason to put them on a page by themselves!
Please use the Database Form to send in your contribution. In addition, suggestions for Projects that we as DiPSites can undertake to help DPS are actively sought. My sources tell me that the idea of a DiPSites Foundation may have some support/merit. What do you think?
Just in case you were wondering - why does it take TWO days or so to update my name in the database? Well, let me give you a rundown of what happens after you submit your entry:
So, as you can see, even with all the tools and considerable automation, the process demands time and attention. It takes me about an hour or so, everytime I sit down to do this. About half of this time (sometimes more) is spent on improving the formatting or adding content (to this news page)! Needless to say, I cannot even dream of doing all this without my Apple PowerMac 6100/60.
I hope that this gives you a behind-the-scenes look on what happens after you hit that "Add me" button! Of course, this is my low-cost, 65 dollar implementation ;-] If I could afford a 24-hour connection to the internet, I would run my own web-server, and possibly provide you with updates in real-time!
That may happen some-day, if and when someone decides that they want to pay me (or someone else!) to do this on a full-time basis ;-] Until then, this is as good a response time as I can (literally) afford!!
Vishrut Lugani has suggested that local chapters of DiPSites should be setup so that DiPSites may network with each other locally. Excellent suggestion! In order to facilitate this, the Database Form now features an entry for your city/state/zip code.
This news page has been created to celebrate eight successful months of this site! This page will contain information about latest updates to the DiPSites pages.
The two tables, By Name and By Year, have been considerably enhanced. The tables now contain active links which allow you to send email by clicking on the person's firstname. This change was made after considerable tweaking with Filemaker Pro!
The tables also contain links to people who are currently maintaining their own sites on the World Wide Web.
The Database form now includes an option to specify whether you are sending in a new entry or updating your entry.
